how to create a test side

Hi,
How can I create a test side which has different database and different code .. For example, my live site uses drupal 5.9 and I would like have test side with drupal 6.x and different database.
Using subdomains ?

    yes, login to your cpanel and create a separate subdomain in a new subfolder inside public_html/ and then you can use that subdomain to test new installations.
