I've been with DVH for a few weeks on their Super Duper oh my god its great shared plan, and it appears to be aptly named. The only problem so far it that I'm learning how slow my broadband connection is. I had some trouble shifting from my old hosts, but the support email turnaround from DVH was within hours, directly with Amit, and was very helpful.
I have been very pleased with the service, and certainly the price.
I understand why users are hesitant due to the nature of the business. For me it was worth the punt. DVH have responded to most of these issues by creating a forum site for discussion (which will also offer tutorials), and it contains this page that explains the DVH business. http://www.drupalvaluehosting.info/content/about-drupalvaluehosting
